Re Brand: The Brat Race
Laura Gibson, the editor and owner of Chez Mummy emailed me to ask if I would help her out, she was looking to change the direction of her blog. Laura’s life as it was in Chez Mummy had evolved and Laura now wanted to focus on parenting advice for working parents.
The Brat Race has a great contemporary feel and the branding needed to reflect this, Laura wanted to keep the colour scheme, well the purple but everything else was open for discussion.
The logo, was a really interesting to design, I wanted to focus on the initials ‘B’ and ‘R’ they have similarities, both of the curves on the letters are alike. Blending these into one gave way for an interesting favicon and or profile gravitar.
The font I custom-built as it needed to look like it had energy and movement, the ‘r’ was not easy to read for a logo so I transformed it slightly, I am sure you will agree that this works well.
Laura didn’t know if the blog should have a tag line on the branding so we went through a few options and decided that yes it was good addition to the logo as a whole.
The Complete package
When the logo was complete we set out to combine the rest of the package, the profile and cover branding for all social media platforms, the foundation to a brand is consistency. Laura used most social media platforms her newest being Youtube. The brand flowed throughout.
I finished off the branding for Laura with a brand board explaining the font choice, colours in hex and CMYK for print.
I am extremely pleased with the outcome of the project – Branding, The Brat Race, as is Laura, its great to see it regularly over the internet!
